To Elon Musk and the Denizens of X (Twitter),
Elon,
Your recent actions have raised major concerns with respect to your influence on global politics and your unmistakable attacks on democracy.
Your contribution of over $260 million to Trump’s campaign was – in the words of Steve Bannon – “the reason we won”. You spent months promoting Donald Trump’s lies to your millions of followers while spreading deepfake media of Kamala Harris. You went so far as to claim that the 2024 election would be the last in the US if Trump did not win.
You went on to endorse the far-right AfD party in Germany, saying on X, “Only the AfD can save Germany”. During the Trump inauguration, you made several “Nazi” salutes to the audience and guests. Elsewhere, you urged Germans to move beyond the “past guilt” of their Nazi forefathers.
Meddling in other countries’ election processes and enthusiastically supporting dangerous lunatics like Trump and AfD members are not the actions of a visionary—they are the desperate thrashings of a “man” who believes himself to be untouchable because of his vast wealth yet is so foundationally insecure he must constantly seek validation from the dregs of humanity.
Years ago, you wove a dream of innovation, advancement, and a future where the intelligent application of technology would elevate humanity. Today’s reality is more mundane. Instead of the visionary you pretend to be, you are the owner of a member-losing social media platform devoid of integrity, riddled with disinformation and repurposed into a playground for your fragile ego and far-right beliefs.
You have transformed what could have been a meaningful global public square – into a festering cesspool of conspiracy theories, hate speech, and political propaganda.
You are no defender of free speech nor a benevolent champion of humanity. Rather, you are a smirking coward hiding behind the smokescreen of “free speech” to amplify the dangerous and deranged opinions that align with your current fetid worldview.
You once took pride in presenting yourself as a “great disruptor” and the voice for a better future, but lately, all I see is an obscenely wealthy guy who is throwing his weight around. Yours is a billionaire-sized tantrum of self-indulgence meant to show the world how powerful you are because it’s all gone to your head, and you’re spinning out of control.
The better future you once championed will never exist as long as “democracy” is paid for by the man with the deepest pockets.
We need intelligent, responsible leaders who understand the consequences of publicizing their opinions. The fallout from your reckless intervention in the political affairs of other countries is dangerous to humanity.
To the Denizens of X: Please be mindful. Don’t let Elon Musk dictate public discourse. He’s become an enemy of democracy and a threat to an informed public.
Elon, given how transactional you are, I can’t say with certainty that you ARE a Nazi. I’m not sure it matters. What does matter is that you are acting like one.
Just remember – for all his popularity back in the day, Hitler died at age 56, by his own hand in an underground bunker. He remains one of history’s most infamous figures. I feel like you could leave a similar legacy.
